Indus River Valley’s government was theocratic, which meant that religion and politics were closely connected. The Indian rulers based their powers on divine assistance, whether it be Buddhism or Hinduism or a different religion. In the Indus River Valley karma played a very big role in their laws. The idea of karma was to be a good person and do your duty, and escape Samara to become Brahman, which is the equivalent of repenting for your sins and achieving spiritual release through making it to heaven, or the Buddhist ideal of kindness and achieving Nirvana. They had universal laws which everyone abides by, for example; you are a part of nature and everything is part of you. Also social laws, human laws, and personal laws but they never had any courts and most punishments were dealt by the people for the people.
